Brentwood, Tennessee is located in Williamson County. The first settlers who arrived in this area in the 1700s were mostly Revolutionary War soldiers who had been granted land by the State of North Carolina. Brentwood grew and prospered, becoming one of the richest cities in Tennessee by the time the Civil War took place. Plantations flourished in the Brentwood area, and many of the beautiful homes were used as hospitals for wounded on both sides during the Civil War. By the time the fighting was over little of the crops or animals were left in the area. Brentwood worked hard at the efforts to recover, and by the 1920s was growing again. Many historic plantation homes have been restored, and approximately 46,000 people live in Brentwood today.
