Franklin, Tennessee is located in Williamson County, south of Nashville. Named after Benjamin Franklin, the city was officially founded in 1799. One of the historical events it is known for is being the location of one of the worst battles of the Civil War. It has become a popular tourist destination because of its history, and the many historic places that still exist. Franklin was given the title of Distinctive Destination by The National Trust for Historic Preservation in 2009. Today approximately 85,469 people call Franklin home.

History lovers will also appreciate the Carnton. Built by former mayor Randal McGavock, it was a large farm with working slaves prior to the Civil War. Here the Battle of Franklin took place, and Carnton became a field hospital after the battle. In 1866 the McGavock Confederate Cemetery was established nearby and holds the remains of almost 1,500 southern soldiers.
